Clinical Study of Comfort Release® Sacral Foam Dressings by Long-Term Care Nurses
OBJECTIVES
- Sacral border foam dressings with the ability to remain in place as long as prescribed
- Optimizing nurses’ time management with ease of sacral border foam dressings
- Measuring patient pain and skin erythema from the removal of sacral border foam dressings
- Prevention of additional sacral pressure injuries
OVERVIEW
Sacral Foam Dressings must “stay in place” over the peri-wound skin to provide mechanical and biological protection to the sacral skin during wound prevention and treatment. The dressing should also allow for easy, atraumatic, painless, and convenient removal.
Clinicians applied, removed and evaluated the Comfort Release® Sacral Border Foam Dressing on incontinent, long-term care patients aged 62-88. Patients with sacral pressure injuries and patients without pressure injuries (prophtlaxis) participated in the study. 47 dressing changes took place during the initial study period.
